Ms. Melissa Nuno is the Project Manager of the Ghanaian Genome (GhGenome) project and Administrator of the West African Genetic Medicine Centre (WAGMC), University of Ghana.
She trained at the University of Ghana and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She has a master’s degree in human and Developmental Psychology from Laurentian University, Ontario, Canada. She also has a certificate in business administration from the Institute of Management and Public Administration as well as a certificate in Project Management from the Project Management Institute, Ghana Chapter.
Ms. Nuno has worked in various industries including telecommunications, tourism, and education. She has honed her administrative skills over the years by holding several positions in supervisory and leadership roles. In her current role, she leads a team of young professionals to operationalize the objectives of WAGMC by planning project activities and providing logistical and administrative support for several projects at the Centre. She supervises the development of processes and procedures for fellowship applications, coordinates and spearheads the planning and execution of several medical outreach programmes, plays a key role in keeping track of project activities, serves on several committees and is responsible for preparing reports for submission to funding bodies. Ms. Nuno contributes to the successful implementation of several other projects at the Centre including the Sickle Cell Disease Genomics Network of Africa (SickleGenAfrica) project and the Ghana Sickle Pan African Research Consortium (Ghana-SPARCO).
