Ayeh-Kumi<\/td>\n<td>Provost, College of Health Sciences<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><\/td>\n<td>Professor Andrew Anthony Adjei<\/td>\n<td>Coordinator Vice-Chancellor\u2019s Strategic Teams<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><\/td>\n<td>Professor George Oduro Nkansah<\/td>\n<td>Director, Institute of Applied Science and Technology<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><\/td>\n<td>Professor Ebenezer Anno Nyako<\/td>\n<td>\u00a0Dean, University of Ghana Dental School<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>VISIT: TOKYO UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY (TUAT)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The UG Team arrived at TUAT and paid a courtesy call on the President of TUAT, Professor Hiroyuki Ohno and Vice President Professor Okayama.<\/p>\n<p>In his opening remarks, the President of TUAT reiterated the 20 years association between TUAT and The University of Ghana (UG) and hoped that the friendship would continue in areas of Agriculture and Technology.<\/p>\n<p>In return, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Oduro Owusu informed the host that he was delighted to be at TUAT again to advance the partnership in areas of student and staff exchanges as well as research collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>After the opening session, there were extensive engagements between the two teams, and these included a blend of roundtable discussions, facility tours and one-on-one discussions, particularly in the areas of Marine and Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, Science and Technology.\u00a0 The other areas of further research\/collaboration mentioned in the meeting included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Artificial intelligence and smart agriculture\/farming<\/li>\n<li>Cocoa agroforestry<\/li>\n<li>Medical engineering<\/li>\n<li>Medicinal plants<\/li>\n<li>Food processing\/nutrition<\/li>\n<li>Increase in student exchange<\/li>\n<li>Joint doctoral programmes supervision<\/li>\n<li>Biotechnology<\/li>\n<li>Agricultural engineering<\/li>\n<li>Plant factory fruit production<\/li>\n<li>Precision farming approaches to small-farm agriculture\/agronomy<\/li>\n<li>Scholarship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img class=\\\"aligncenter\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image002_45.jpg\\\" sizes=\\\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\\\" srcset=\\\"https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image002_45.jpg 640w, https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image002_45-300x225.jpg 300w\\\" alt=\\\"\\\" width=\\\"640\\\" height=\\\"480\\\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>VISIT: TOKYO MEDICAL AND DENTAL UNIVERSITY (TMDU)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Team held meetings with the President of Tokyo Medical and Dental University on the second day. \u00a0The President of Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU), Professor Yasuyuki Yoshikawa, in his remarks said he was happy to meet with the UG Team to explore further areas of collaboration in Medicine and Dentistry; adding that he felt the need to increase the number of students (from University of Ghana Dental School) admitted to TDMU.\u00a0 The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Oduro Owusu said he shared the same sentiments with his colleague and indicated that it was the primary reason the Team from UG seeks to expand on the existing partnership with TMDU. After the welcome remarks, discussions centered on further collaboration in medicine, dentistry and nursing.\u00a0 Other areas of the discussions included joint supervision of PhD Students.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\\\"aligncenter\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image004_99.jpg\\\" sizes=\\\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\\\" srcset=\\\"https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image004_99.jpg 640w, https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image004_99-300x225.jpg 300w\\\" alt=\\\"\\\" width=\\\"640\\\" height=\\\"480\\\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>VISIT: UNIVERSITY OF TSUKUBA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The meeting took place at the University of Tsukuba President\u2019s Conference Room.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Nagata, President of Tsukuba University welcomed the UG Team. He stressed on the importance of research collaboration and the increase in student enrolment from Ghana. \u00a0The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Oduro Owusu also made similar remarks on the need to have stronger partnership and to have a formal agreement between the two universities.<\/p>\n<p>After the welcome remarks, discussions centered on expansion of exchange for early career faculty and students, particularly in the areas of Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, Bioscience, Virology as well as Medical research.<\/p>\n<p>Coordinators were appointed from the two teams to discuss areas of mutual interest. Professor Andrew Anthony Adjei, Coordinator, Vice-Chancellor\u2019s Strategic Teams was nominated to lead the UG Team.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\\\"aligncenter\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image008_58-768x573.jpg\\\" sizes=\\\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\\\" srcset=\\\"https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image008_58-768x573.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image008_58-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image008_58-1024x765.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image008_58.jpg 1429w\\\" alt=\\\"\\\" width=\\\"768\\\" height=\\\"573\\\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>VISIT: MEIJI UNIVERSITY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The meeting took place at Meiji University\u2019s President\u2019s Conference Room.\u00a0 The President of Meiji University, Professor Kei-ichiro Tsuchiya welcomed the UG Team. \u00a0\u00a0He remarked that, he was happy to meet with the UG Team to explore new areas of collaboration especially in the Humanities and Agriculture. \u00a0\u00a0He felt there was the need to increase the number of African students to his University. \u00a0\u00a0In response to his request, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Oduro Owusu said he was also elated to meet him and explore partnership collaboration with him. \u00a0\u00a0After the welcome remarks, discussions centered mainly on further collaboration in Humanities and Agriculture as well as the possibility of increase in the numbers of African students, particularly students from University of Ghana.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\\\"aligncenter\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image010_0-768x576.png\\\" sizes=\\\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\\\" srcset=\\\"https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image010_0-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image010_0-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image010_0-1024x768.png 1024w, https:\/\/wagmc.ug.edu.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image010_0.png 1080w\\\" alt=\\\"\\\" width=\\\"768\\\" height=\\\"576\\\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>CHIBA UNIVERSITY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Professor George Oduro Nkansah, Director, Institute of Applied Science and Technology met Professor Maruo at the Kashiwanoha Campus, Chiba University on 13<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0December 2019. The two Professors discussed possible research exchange of staff and students as well as collaboration with Chiba University\u2019s industry partners. Professor Maruo said he was happy to see Professor Nkansah, a former student of his laboratory and agreed that there should be a signed MOU between the two Universities in 2020 for further partnership. Professor Maruo mentioned he would be happy to introduce some of their industry partners to UG in areas of food processing technology.
